assistant QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of reinstatement and surfacing works within the utilities sector.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in quantity surveying, gaining hands-on experience across live projects while working closely with the Commercial Manager and Commercial Director. The role will involve assisting with valuations, subcontractor management, and commercial reporting to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably
Commercial Support
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of applications for payment and reports
Support the measurement and valuation of works in line with contract requirements (e.g., SORs, BOQs)
Help compile and maintain cost/value reconciliations (CVRs)
Assist in identifying cost and value risks and opportunities
Subcontractor & Supplier Management
Assist with processing subcontractor applications and payments
Help manage subcontractor records, variations, and final account
Assist in administering contracts under supervision (e.g., NEC or utility frameworks)
Support the management of variations, compensation events, and change control processes
Ensure accurate record-keeping of all commercial and contractual documentation
Operational Support
Work closely with site teams to gather and verify work completion data
Assist in tracking productivity and performance of reinstatement and surfacing works
Support compliance with client specifications and reinstatement standards (e.g., SROH)
Reporting & Documentation
Assist in preparing regular commercial reports for senior management
Maintain accurate project records, including costs, variations, and correspondence
Support audits and ensure documentation is up to date and accessible
Stakeholder Engagement
Build positive working relationships with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors
Attend meetings when required and provide support to senior commercial staff
Experience & Qualifications
Degree (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field
Some experience (placement, internship, or entry-level role) within construction, utilities, or surfacing (preferred)
Basic understanding of commercial processes and contracts (e.g., NEC – desirable)
Awareness of reinstatement or highways standards (e.g., SROH – desirable)
Skills & Competencies

Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel
